This catalogue was published by MATE – Museo Mario Testino to accompany the Hamidou Maiga exhibition The Route of the Níger: From Mopti to Timbuktu. The exhibition consisted of 36 black and white photographs taken between 1962 and 1973 and views showing his first studio in Bamako, Mali. Maiga’s archive of negatives only came to light in 2011 when discovered by curator and gallery owner Jack Bell. The exhibition at MATE was first time the important African photographer had an exhibition in Latin America.
The Hamidou Maiga exhibition is the third of MATE's Maestros de la Fotografia series.
